A former manufacturer of transit buses and school buses, Kenworth is an American manufacturer of medium and heavy-duty Class 8 trucks and is based in Kirkland, Washington, United States. Kenworth began in 1923, when Harry Kent and Edgar Worthington reincorporated Gersix Motor Co, a truck manufacturer, into the Kenworth Motor Truck Company. The new business name was the combination of “Ken” and “Worth”. Soon after, the company started to build buses along with trucks, and in 1933 was the first American firm to use diesel engines as a standard component in its trucks. In 1945, Kenworth was acquired by Pacific Car and Foundry Company (PACCAR).
As a wholly owned subsidiary of PACCAR, Kenworth continued to produce commercial as well as military trucks. In the 1950s, it built the 853 that was used in oil fields of the Middle East, the 801 for construction in America, and the 3,000-ton capable 900 series used in the Yukon oil exploration venture. It also produced the popular large cabin W900 and K100 models during the 1960s. Since then, it has successfully designed and manufactured aerodynamic trucks that changed the industry for good. The radical slope-nosed design of its vehicles remain as a distinguishing trademark of Kenworth trucks.
The growing popularity of the Kenworth trucks continues to put new vehicles on the road. When your Kenworth truck is in need of repair or maintenance, AGA Parts will ship quality parts to your location for the lowest price, guaranteed. Contact us today for a free quote for Kenworth truck parts.
